Mistral Secures $830 Million to Build Paris Data Center
Mistral has secured $830 million in debt financing to fund a Paris-area data center, CNBC reports. The facility will run on 13,800 Nvidia GB300 GPUs at 44 MW of capacity, handling both model training and inference. Seven banks back the deal, including Bpifrance, BNP Paribas, Credit Agricole CIB, and Natixis CIB. Operational target is Q2 this year.
This is infrastructure ownership, not cloud rental. Mistral CEO Arthur Mensch named the demand driver plainly: governments, enterprises, and research institutions want customized AI environments without depending on third-party cloud providers. Mistral also announced a 1.2-billion-euro compute expansion in Sweden in February, signaling a deliberate European infrastructure buildout.
Watch where sovereignty demand lands. Mistral is converting public-sector and enterprise anxiety about cloud dependency into physical assets on European soil. The banks backing this deal are French and European institutions. That alignment, capital plus compute plus customer base, is the structure worth tracking.
