Scaleway Wins EU Commission Sovereign Cloud Contract

The European Commission has selected Scaleway to deliver a sovereign public cloud and AI platform for EU institutions. Scaleway is the cloud division of French telecoms group Iliad. No contract value was disclosed in the announcement.

According to Iliad, this is a direct mandate from the Commission, not a framework agreement. That distinction matters. EU institutions will run workloads on Scaleway infrastructure rather than on US hyperscaler platforms. Sovereignty here is the procurement criterion, not a marketing claim.

Watch whether this contract becomes a reference win that opens other European public-sector buyers. Scaleway now holds distribution inside EU institutions. That is the asset, not the technology.
